WHO WE ARE
Women entrepreneurs are vital economic contributors in Canada — building businesses that support families, uplift communities and generate jobs.
#shemeets was created to support women of colour (WOC) in starting and growing their ideas into businesses, social enterprises, charities, collectives or side hustles.
Our mission is to support the next generation of WOC and Indigenous female leaders with the networks, entrepreneurial training, and mentorship to develop their ideas into reality and contribute to Canada's entrepreneurial and innovative competitiveness.
Our programming's goals are:
• Increasing awareness and participation of women of colour (WOC) and Indigenous women in entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial learning experiences.
• Increasing the participation of WOC and Indigenous women in Canada’s entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystems including start-ups and businesses, social enterprises, community initiatives and careers.
• Stimulating an increase in the number of WOC and Indigenous women in senior leadership and decision-making roles in government, education, creative economy, STEM, entrepreneurship, business and community sectors.

- Although this increase represents progress for gender parity, there is still a significant gap between women-owned and male-owned enterprises across Canada.
- The number of women of colour or Indigenous female owned enterprises in Canada are even slimmer.
- As of 2018, current statistics are not readily available about women of colour who are entrepreneurs or small business owners.
- Data from 2001 showed that 19 per cent of visible minority entrepreneurs are women.
- 51 per cent of Indigenous-owned small and medium businesses in Canada belong partly or wholly to women.
